A post office called Norwood has been in operation since 1887.[7]Norwood is a small rural community with a short downtown and a few businesses. It’s located 33 miles northwest of Telluride in Southwest Colorado on Wright’s Mesa at 7000 feet, Norwood has spectacular vistas of high alpine and wild desert country. Far horizons are ringed by the La Sal Mountains in the west, the Uncompahgre Plateau to the north, the San Juan Mountains in the east and Lone Cone Peak to the south.
Situated in San Miguel County, The town’s first settler from Norwood, Missouri, named the town after his hometown. Norwood is a Certified IDA International Dark Sky Community, meaning the community makes a conscious effort to minimize light pollution and allow you to really see the stars at night.
